Republican Lawmakers Telegraphed War-time Cues Urging Riots

“Today is 1776,” said newly elected Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO.)

Boebert, an ardent Trump supporter and QAnon conspiracy theorist has spent her entire campaign and first days in Congress crafting doomsday status updates on Twitter and the controversial far-right social media platform Parler. In the days leading up to the tragic riots that saw Trump supporters siege the US Capitol building as lawmakers inside gathered to certify the results of the 2020 election, US Senators and Representatives strongly allied with Trump had used their platforms to push Doomsday-like sentiments to provoke a sense of immediate urgency to their base.

Senator Ted Cruz, a one time Trump critic turned flagellant to the former President spoke at a Georgia Rally supporting another QAnon candidate, Kelly Loeffler in a special run off on January 2nd.

“You men and women who are gathered here, you are patriots. Just like the patriots who gathered at Bunker Hill. Just like patriots gathered at Valley Forge. Just like the patriots who forged this Nation, the men and women gathered here are fighting for the United States of America. I love you, and you are fighting for my freedom, and I am grateful to be standing shoulder to shoulder with you.” — Ted Cruz, January 2, 2021

Like Boebert, Cruz was set to appear on the floor of Senate to contest the results of the election- results which had already been litigated 61 times in State and Federal Courts and found to be baseless claims with absolutely no evidence. Despite a flurry of recounts, investigations and law suits, no State found any widespread election fraud that The American President and his supporters swore existed. They simply could not fathom that American citizens reject Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric, dangerous policies and disenfranchisement of millions of people- especially those from minority communities. Trump had spend four years grooming his base to believe that if he should lose, it was an election rigged against him and stolen from them.

Republicans who seemingly abandoned their own party values to splay themselves before the President- Senators like Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Mike Lee (R-UT) and US House Members like Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Mo Brooks (R-AL) hoped that their continued rebuking of President-Elect Joe Biden, in spite of the free and fair election results, would allow them to inherit the base that Trump had aggregated beneath him. Representative Ghomert appeared on Newsmax, a far right news media channel devoted to elevating Donald Trump, to call for his supporter to “Go to the streets and be violent.”

Mo Brooks who spoke at the “Save America” Rally that would soon turn deadly, riled up the already agitated crowd. “Today is the day that Americans start taking down names and kicking ass.”

After the violent attack on the Capitol Building that left 5 people dead, including a police officer, many of the Senators and Servants in the House of Representatives who had intended to use the televised moment to push more conspiracy theories and lies to placate the ego of Donald Trump has suddenly change their mind. Having stared directly into the mouth of the Beast created by four years of lies and conspiracies and deliberate misleading, key figures chose to end their push to block the confirmation of Joe Biden and instead focus on unifying the country and set an example in the grave aftermath of the insurrection which could have seen their own colleagues killed by an enraged mob inspired by their own divisive language. Senator Kelly Loeffler, having just lost her seat in her special election days before in which she promised to reject a Biden presidency said, “The events that transpired have forced me to reconsider, and I cannot now in good conscience object to the certification of these electors.” She added, “The violence, the lawlessness and siege of the halls of Congress are abhorrent and stand as a direct attack on what my objection was intended to protect, the sanctity of the American democratic process.”

She was met with applause from fellow lawmakers. Others followed suit, for once realizing how their own actions in pursuit of placating the increasingly radicalized Trump base and stroking the ego of Trump himself, had been a destructive force, resulting in the terrifying consequences they had just witnessed up close and personally.

Except for Brooks, Cruz, Hawley, Lee and Boebert… they stayed the course of dissent. From the floor of Senate after a nightmarish four hours that saw domestic terrorists whipped into a frenzy by the US President and his sycophants like Mark Meadows and Rudy Guiliani, the four of them parroted more lies and conspiracy theories from the podium, claiming the election was fraudulent and they didn’t care that they were now complicit in putting lives in danger, as long as they benefitted politically.

In fact, while the hoards of violent Trump Supporters funneled directly to the Lobby of the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, with the intent to assassinate her, Congresswoman Boebert live tweeted the movement of Pelosi from inside the Capitol Building. First, she announced their location- later she communicated that Pelosi had been moved.

Historically, Boebert has been fixated on Pelosi, promising that she would vote to “FIRE” Pelosi from the Speakership and tweeting misinformation and lies about the Democrat.

Boebert has been criticized, not only for her explicit fearmongering, but also her ties to the QAnon conspiracy theories that claim Democrats serving in government are a pedophiles who are in an organized cabal beholden to Satan. After her appointment to congress, more information as released on Boebert, most of which demonstrated ties to white supremacist groups.

Boebert continues to traffic in lies and conspiracy theories via an account on Parler where she has launched assaults on Dr. Anthony Fauci and persisted with her crusade to invalidate the 2020 election in favor of Donald Trump.

Users of social media have been publicly calling for the FBI to investigate Boebert and calling for Cruz, Hawley and Lee, along with other Trump loyalists in Congress who are accused of provoking the uprising by the mob to resign from their seats, claiming they failed to uphold the oath they had taken before assuming their official posts.

The references to 1776, when the Revolutionary War was waged by the 13 colonies against Congress, seem to be a persistent theme; a through-line between Trump acolytes in Government like Cruz and Boebert to Trump fans cum terrorists, such as one rioter caught on a widely circulated video telling the media, “What do you think 1776 was?
