Pride Season & Monkey Pox: All Present Cases Bi or Gay Men

CDC Released a comprehensive update on Monkey Pox and noted that the majority of global patients currently infected with the treatable virus are men who have sex with men.

It’s important to contextualize this current health threat and resist inducing panic among the LGBTQ+ community, but implement rational safeguarding measure to reduce your risk of infection as the CDC reinforces the possibility of greater spread over the summer months as extracurricular activities such as Pride events, concerts, nightclub parties and other such gatherings that present an opportunity for the virus to spread.

This is being classified as an “Outbreak” according to Capt. Jennifer McQuiston, Deputy Director at the Division of High Consequence Pathogens and Pathology, and there has been outbreak previously, in the early 2000’s as a result of the illegal import of exotic animals to the US. It is known to be endemic in undeveloped West African countries

A lot of reporting on the current Monkey Pox has been both confusing and contradictory. While it is NOT classified as an STD, it is known to frequently travel between sexual partners due to the proximity of the parties during the act.
