We must acknowledge that this is a compounding issue. It began with Florida Governor Rick DeSantis referring to gay people as pedophiles and groomers. The gauntlet was picked up by the very worst ilk of our extremist representatives and senators who saw this fractious time in the post-trump era as a veritable green light to attack, terrorize and fight for the right to discriminate against an innocent minority. When the US began bleeding red from beneath a sea of cult-like red hats sing-songing racist chants like 6th graders in church, they knew that this might be their only moment in history to leverage the culture war they had so viciously stoked and fight for their rights to take away those of others all the way to the Supreme Court, where for the first time in over a decade, the scales of justice lean far-right. This is how they overturned the settled law of Roe vs. Wade. They sat in silence, bided their time with an almost impeccable patience, and the moment the government body favored their ideology, they unleased a torrent of lawsuits that would see our communities as we knew them reshaped beyond recognition, vilified, even in some cases, hunted for daring to move through loopholes to get life saving reproductive care.
