GOP Lawmakers Now Defining Gays as “Groomers”
Some members of Senate and Congress hailing from Red States have conflated homosexuality with “Grooming” in an effort to demonize gay men.
We’ve been here before.
From the 60’s through the 90’s, preachers and politicians used reckless terminology to amplify their agenda by declaring that gays were something the public should fear. Especially when it came to the discourse around gay men, those of the hyper-conservative and religious persuasion would frequently identify gays as a threat to public safety, especially of children.
By now, we have learned that their pattern has been to use children as the would-be victim of their target, thus incurring social hostility and negatively shaping public opinion regarding the group of people they’ve taken aim at.
They did it to black men to justify the rebuking of slavery abolishment, citing the idea that they were dangerous and predatory, and that their freedom meant certain doom for innocent women and their fragile children who might be asked to share a space with a darker pigmented person. They did it to Native Americans, referring to them as “Savages” who just might commit horrible atrocities on women and children and so they justified a genocide that was, shockingly, largely supported by fellow colonizers from Europe who had never interacted with…
