Gay Icon Bette Midler Comes Out Swinging Against Trans People

This was probably the most unexpected turn of events in the ongoing, heated discourse regarding the trans community.
In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe vs. Wade and over a dozen states immediately triggering bans on abortion, often with no exemptions, the outrage that followed is justified.
However, in some cases, it has lead to trans people, once again, being thrown under the bus, and this extremist decision by the Supreme Court even blamed on the existence of transgender people- specifically trans women.
Since the catastrophic ruling was handed down last week, the more visible members of the transgender community have rushed to the defense of the most vulnerable among us, trans men, women, non-binary people who have been relentlessly threatened by this devastating move. Since 2019, when Justice Clarence Thomas first signaled that his intent would be to overturn Roe 50 years after it’s implementation, the LGBTQ+ community has rallied around those whose rights to their own decisions would be impacted by the egregious move.
