Georgia’s QAnon darling. Marjorie Taylor Greene is in the news once again.
The conspiracy loving congresswoman and self declared Trump acolyte took to the floor of Congress to oppose the Equality Act that would ensure the rights of LGBTQ Americans could not be debated and contested any further after former President, Donald Trump, sought to remove civil rights, obstruct fair and equal access to quality healthcare and legalize discrimination in favor of religion- in spite of the constitution.
Congresswoman Taylor Greene has been heavily criticized for stalking and verbally assaulting teenage school shooting survivor David Hogg on the streets of Washington DC prior to her assuming office. She has, previously, also declared her devotion to the QAnon conspiracy which claims Democrat leaders are secretly a cabal of child trafficking, Satan worshiping pedophiles who eat infants and receive discreet, special messages from a top secret, high ranking insider in Trump’s administration known only as Q. She has also openly refused to adhere to the safety and security guidelines regarding COVID-19 and rebuked the rules in the halls of Congress that forbid guns on the premises and insisted the US Presidential election was stolen, thus contributing to the insurrection that took place on January 6th leaving 5 people dead.
Taylor Greene contested the Equality Act claiming that equality for Transgender people threatens the safety of women and removes them of their own rights, thus making them vulnerable. She maintains this regardless of the fact that transgender women had been functioning alongside cisgender women for centuries.
After Taylor Greene made a mockery of transgender women specifically in her effort to prevent the passage of the Equality Act- a bill that other countries like the United Kingdom and those signatory to the European Union, have had since 2010- Illinois Representative Marie Newman, whose office is located directly across the hallway from Taylor Green in the Capitol Building, decided to send her a strong message…
Congresswoman Newman, who has a transgender daughter, video taped herself posting a Transgender flag directly outside her office so that Taylor Greene “Can see it every time she opens her door” and posted it to twitter.
The post has quickly racked up nearly 50,000 likes from allies to the transgender community who have spent four tumultuous years beneath Trump’s hateful and divisive regime that often targeted transgender people specifically.
Not to be outdone, an hour later, Taylor “Around here Trump is King” Green posted her own video to twitter, showing herself taping a large sign to the wall outside her door that reads in bold letters: “There are 2 Genders: Male and Female. Trust The Science.” In her status she added a jab at Newman, saying she “Put ours up so she can see it every time she opens her door.”
Both videos open on a placard of the name of their intended recipient of their messaging… although Taylor Greene’s unapologically attacks trans and non-binary Americans as she continues to telegraph the fact that she has no interest in representing or safeguarding the civil rights of anyone she does not approve of.
Greene, however took her aggression a step further and began attacking Congresswoman Newman’s transgender daughter, intentionally misgendering her.
Members of the transgender community experience a disproportionate rate of homicide as a result of hate driven violence compared to other minority communities in the country. Much of that increase in violence has been instigated by the former President and his supporters whose rhetoric had emboldened White Nationalists and radicalized bigots into the belief that their actions are “Patriotic” and thus justified.
Taylor Greene has ushered hatred into the most sacred halls of democracy and, while only in her first term serving, has been an aggressive antagonist toward LGBTQ Americans and people of color, whose votes she attempted to nullify in an effort to overturn the results of the 2020 Election in favor of Donald Trump.
This is not the first time Greene has provoked her follow representatives. Just last month, newly elected Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO) alleged she was forced to move her own office to get away from Taylor Greene who she claimed “Berated and Targeted” her. Congresswoman Bush is a black woman who has been vocal in her support of Black Lives Matter and the need to counter Republican efforts to sabotage future election by suppressing black voter rights throughout the nation.
Earlier this month, despite overwhelming Republican support, Democrats voted to strip her of serving on two committees within Congress, the Labor and Education Committee and Budget Committee, due to her erratic and combative behavior.
A day after the dueling posts went viral, Congressman Newman received notice that her post on Facebook had been removed for going against their policy of hate speech… indeed implying that allegiance with transgender American is somehow hateful or intolerant.
Presently, Marjorie Taylor Greene’s tweets remain intact.
