BBC Joins Vicious Media Chorus Against Trans Women in UK
“They have painted us all as sex pests and pedophiles.”
Transgender women across Europe have been enduring a years long battle with aggressive media rhetoric intent on excising them from society. In 2019, the Economist, who routinely runs venomous, anti-trans articles, tweeted to their 25 million followers “Should Transgender people be sterilized before they are recognized?” A single tweet thrust transgender people into the spotlight and subjected them to a further torrent of abuse, hate speech and threats to their safety. The publication The Daily Dot has revealed that the Economist editor, Helen Joyce, has her own grim history of spewing transphobia.
The British media have routinely laid a target firmly on the back of Trans women with radical, sinister headlines, often baselessly accusing them of sex crimes that have never happened, making up hypothetical scenarios that posture transgender women as dangerous villains and slow-dripping misinformation regarding transgender women and their alleged motives for being Trans into the mainstream conscious, unfairly influencing the beliefs and opinions of readers by manufacturing faux moral outrage.
